Whilst growing up I was always lucky enough to be good at a number of varied sports. I have represented the following sports at a number of different levels: tennis, athletics, cricket, roller hockey, rink hockey, show jumping and dressage, bobsleigh, squash, golf to name but a few. This led to exploratory knee surgery when I was 16 when I was then told I should stop playing all sport.
Being one that enjoys proving others wrong, I carried out some extensive leg training which has enabled me to not only keep competing in lots of different sports but also saw me complete the most physically demanding basic military training in the world…twice! I have done the Royal Marines Commando course, once as a Marine and once as an Officer. It really shows you that the mind can be a very powerful tool to train alongside your body.
My family got me involved in gym work from an early age. I starting lifting weights when I was just 10. I can tell you right now that it does not stunt your growth or bend your limbs. For 26 years I have been not only lifting weights but also reading manuals, book and magazines about health and fitness. I have been almost completely self taught until the last 9 months when I knew I had to get some official exams behind me to move my career in the direction I wanted to go.
To date I have completed a British Weightlifting Association Instructors Course, the Level 1, 2 and Senior United Kingdom Kettlebell Association Instructors Course and a Level 2 Strength and Conditioning (S+C) Coaching Course.
Outside of that I have taken just one season to get a rugby team (Bradford on Avon) from 6th in their league to top and secure promotion. I worked as their S+C Coach and latterly I became their defensive coach during training and the team coach for matches.

This has opened a few doors and I have recently been approached by Bath RFC to be one of their assistant S+C coaches for next season.
I work with individual clients and with teams. I have a varied approach to training which always keeps the clients happy. I have also just designed a piece of gym equipment which may see me have to suffer in front of the ‘Dragons’ on Dragons Den. I hope to be able to have my own place in the not too distant future where I can educate clients in nutrition, fitness, strength, power and speed.
